When we help children and families in need, we are caring for the least of these. Myers Park Baptist has always invested in efforts to enrich educational opportunities for children and their families in our community.
There are many ways for us to help: tutor a student, staff a school book fair, provide teacher support at Sedgefield Middle School, or volunteer at the new Freedom School at Pinewood Elementary this summer. Become involved in the Lakewood Community by becoming a mentor, working with the Cooperative Preschool, or going on a Saturday morning bike ride with Charlotte Trips for Kids.
Freedom School at Pinewood Elementary School
June 15 – July 29, 2016 (help any or all of those weeks!)
This summer marks our third year teaming up with Sharon United Methodist Church to bring Freedom School to the children of Pinewood Elementary. This six-week program, staffed by specially-trained college interns and enriched by a strong volunteer base, is designed to bridge the summer learning gap that often occurs for children of low-income families. This fun, multi-generational opportunity promises to leave a lasting impression on children, their families, and the volunteers involved — long after summer ends.
