Help us meet our goal of $25,000!
Make a Donation to the 5-in-1 Unified Mission Offering
We are a people united in our effort to support outreach. We offer various opportunities to touch the lives of others throughout the year: stewardship pledge, Loose Plate and Rice Bowl offerings, and all the ways you may offer your time. With all of these, WE, the Church, make a difference in the lives of our neighbors! Our 5-in-1 Unified Mission Offering is another way to significantly support our neighbors in need.
Each Mother’s Day, the Ministry of Outreach asks for your support through a one-time offering. Rather than special appeals for causes throughout the year, MPBC established a one-time offering to support five different partners, appropriately named “5-in-1 Unified Mission Offering.” The total collected is split evenly among five local partners.
The 5-in-1 Offering augments the outreach funds allocated from the Church Operating Budget. 100% of the funds received on May 14 will be given directly to our partners. Our goal for this year is $25,000. This is exciting because it makes a difference; this gift equips our partners to do their jobs and minister to the needs of our neighbors.
You should have received a special 5-in-1 Offering envelope at your home. 5-in-1 gifts must be mailed or returned to the Church in that envelope. You can mail it to the Church office or bring it with you on May 14 (Mother’s Day) to the 11:00a service, where we will collect and dedicate this gift. Think about giving as a way of life – a way to show kindness, compassion, and mercy to our neighbors. We ask (and welcome) you to give generously to help support this offering. Our 2017 partners are:
LAKEWOOD PRESCHOOL COOPERATIVE:
Our 20-year partner in the Lakewood Community still faces a big challenge: providing high-quality, low-cost childcare and educational programs for neighborhood preschool children. These funds help provide a nutritionally sound breakfast, lunch, and snack through partnerships with Friendship Trays and the Child and Adult Food Care Program to 50 children and their families.
CRISIS ASSISTANCE MINISTRY
Crisis Assistance Ministry serves low-income people in Mecklenburg County. Funds will be used to support the immediate needs of families living in poverty and provide the support necessary to help them move toward financial stability and away from the homelessness that can result from financial crisis.
R.A.I.N. (REGIONAL AIDS INTERFAITH NETWORK)
RAIN is entering its 25th year of calling people of faith to respond compassionately to persons with HIV/AIDS and making quality, personalized care available for individuals affected by HIV. Funds will be used to support client pastoral care, case management, HIV education, prevention programs, and leadership on matters of faith and HIV/ AIDS. Join the MPBC team on Saturday, May 6 for our 21st annual RAIN AIDS Walk in uptown Charlotte. You may sign up at www.aidswalkcharlotte.org.
FREEDOM SCHOOL AT PINEWOOD ELEMENTARY
A six-week summer enrichment program serving scholars in grades K-8, Freedom School helps children fall in love with reading! This increases their self-esteem and generates positive attitudes toward learning through meaningful experiences on field trips and STEAM activities. Funds will be used to underwrite our FOURTH year of our Freedom School. The cost is $1,200 per student. Look for ways to get involved during this summer program and in year-round opportunities that can make a difference in a child’s life at Pinewood Elementary.
TIME OUT YOUTH (TOY)
A 20-year partner, TOY provides a safe environment for LGBTQ youth (ages 11-20) and their allies by fostering interaction, learning, and affirmation. They offer emergency services for displaced LGBT youth, as well group activities for all. They promote awareness and inclusion for LGBTQ youth in our school system. TOY is fielding a surge in LGBT youth seeking help, as their client visits doubled in 2016. TOY moved into a new building in April and will begin work in 2018 on a 10-12 bed LGBT Youth Shelter.
